OPUS SCIENTIFIC PRESENTS HUMAN RESOURCES TRACK AT LIFE SCIENCES SUMMIT

Melville, May 30, 2007 - How can Long Island attract and retain scientific talent on Long Island? Join bioscience industry leaders and members of the region’s life sciences community at the 2007 Life Sciences Summit - Human Resources Track on Thursday, June 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hilton Huntington Long Island in Melville to discover the answer!

Opus Scientific, a specialized professional staffing firm that supports biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device and other scientific intensive industries, will be partnering with producers of the 2007 Summit – The Center for Biotechnology and the Long Island Life Sciences Initiative (LILSI) to develop and sponsor the Human Resources Track “Keeping Long Island Competitive in the Life Sciences: Attracting, Retaining and Rewarding Talent”

“As the Long Island bioscience industry expands, so does the demand for skilled scientific talent, but unfortunately firms in the region have expressed increased difficulties in recruiting and retaining a scientific workforce,” says Ken Gelfand, Managing Director of Opus Scientific. “Primary reasons include a shortage of existing skilled labor, an insufficient supply of science graduates, the high cost of living, an inadequate supply of workforce housing and the inability of firms to attract out of state candidates to relocate to Long Island. We at Opus Scientific want to bridge this gap and begin to revitalize Long Island’s bioscience workforce.”

The 2007 Summit will present a day of compelling discussions exploring strategic issues that will shape the future of the life sciences industry.  At the 2007 Life Sciences Summit, Opus Scientific will present three different sessions all addressing critical human resource issues including attracting and retaining scientific talent, developing employee compensation and reward systems, and preparing for the Long Island workforce in 25 years. The event will begin with a networking breakfast, followed by three different panelist sessions. Pearl Kamer, Chief Economist Long Island Association will be one of the panelists as well as many other prestigious industry and community leaders.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with Opus Scientific to develop the Human Resources Track of the 2007 Life Sciences Summit.  Our partnership with Opus has expanded our reach to include valuable human resource issues that are critical to the continued growth of this region’s life science community.  We look forward to our ongoing relationship that promotes the expansion of this region’s premier life science industry event.” Clinton T. Rubin, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor and Director, Center for Biotechnology.
